The 2022 State Championship basketball tournaments begin today. Two area teams are playing in the Class 1A Division II State Championships at Barton Community College in Great Bend, the Lebo Lady Wolves and the Waverly Bulldogs.
Today, in the boys’ state tournament at Great Bend, the Bulldogs, seeded sixth with a 13-10 record, will play No. 3-seeded Almena-Northern Valley (21-2) in the quarterfinal round at 4 p.m. The winner will play the winner of a game between No. 2-seeded Tribune-Greeley County (21-2) and No. 7-seeded Rozel-Pawnee Heights (12-10) in the semifinal round at 2 p.m. Friday, March 11. In the girls’ state tournament in Great Bend tomorrow, the Lebo Lady Wolves, seeded third with a 22-1 record, will take on No. 6-seeded Hanover (19-4) in the quarterfinal round at 8 p.m. The winner will play the winner of a game between No. 2-seeded Central Plains (22-1) and No. 7-seeded Beloit-St. John’s/Tipton (17-6) in the semifinal round at 8 p.m. Friday, March 11!
